With such a wide variety of trailer types available, selecting the best trailer for the job may seem challenging. To narrow it down: the model you choose mainly will depend on the cargo that is being transported.
When choosing a specific trailer aspect such as the content of load, the distance being travelled, as well as the functionality, strength, capacity, construction, licensing, insurance and safety of the trailer, need to be taken into consideration.
Due to specific needs, different loads require different trailers. The construction, suspension, warranty and reputation of the trailer may also be key factors to bear in mind when you have options available.
PRBB, a preferred truck trailer manufacturer in South Africa, offers a wide range of durable trailers for a greater payload. What trailer sizes, types and dimensions are there? PRBB offers the following:
Tautliner
Tautliner refers to a curtain sided type of trailer. Being one of the most popular types of trailers it is used to carry a variety of cargo that can effortlessly be loaded or unloaded from the side once the side curtain is opened.
PRBB’s Tautliner comes with a 6/12m or 7/11m Link and for marketing purposes the curtains can be digitally printed to suit your Corporate Identity and become a moving billboard for your company. It has a tare (unladen) weight of 9 900 kg, a payload capacity of 36 600 kg and a gross combined mass (GCM) — the maximum combined weight of the vehicle, trailer and any cargo — of 56 000 kg + 2%. The tautliner comes with corner plate carriers, a spare wheel, spare wheel carrier, toolbox and 18 load straps.
Side Tipper
A side tipper trailer is essential when it comes to the mining and agricultural industry. This type of trailer uses hydraulic rams, which tip the entire trailer bowl to the side, to offload its contents.
PRBB offers 18mᶟ, 25mᶟ, 40m³, 45mᶟ and 50mᶟ side tippers. The 25 mᶟ side tipper has a tare weight of 8 300 kg, a payload capacity of 39 324 kg + 2% and a GCM of 56 000 kg + 2%. The 45 mᶟ side tipper has a tare weight of 10 600 kg, a payload capacity of 36 000 kg and a GCM of 56 000 kg + 2%. These side tippers are fitted standard with Weweler Air Suspension and can also be fitted with BPW Air. A spare wheel, together with its carrier, is included.
The tipping angle of PRBB’s side tippers is 42.8 degrees, as opposed to the industry’s norm of 40 degrees.
Flat Deck
Designed to give you a flat surface to load cargo without any obstructions. The fact that you can load it from any angle — sides, top or rear — makes them versatile to carry a variety of freight. They however are not well-suited for taller cargo.
PRBB offers standard flat deck trailers, flat deck trailers with pole pockets and flat deck container carriers.
- The standard flat deck includes a corner plate carrier, a spare wheel, spare wheel carrier, 18 load straps, 600 mm headboard (leader/follower) and medium toolbox.
